Amber
Teaches: Yoga
Amber discovered yoga 11 years ago while attending college in San Diego as a way to relax and stretch after spinning classes.  It wasn't until she got involved in a local capoiera group that she realized how important her yoga practice had become to her.  The flexibilty and strength she had gained from her yoga classes made it much easier to practice capoiera.  Amber continued to take various Ashtanga, Hatha, and Vinyasa classes in San Diego and promised herself she would study yoga in India.

She took a detour on the way there to work as a Peace Corps Community Health Worker in Madagascar for two years, where she worked in a little village in the middle of the rainforest.  While in Madagascar, she lead several yoga trainings for other Peace Corps Volunteers as a way to deal with the stressful, daily issues of living in such harsh conditions.  In addition, she started a women's yoga club for the women in her village and some of the surrounding cities. The women in her village loved the way they felt after their yoga classes and the self-confidence they gained while doing their practice.

Finally, in December 2006, she traveled to Mysore to study yoga.  She studied ashtanga yoga and yoga therapy at the Pranava Yogadhama Center with her teacher Jayakumar Swamysree.  "Yoga is such a positive full body experience.  It is a way to calm and energize your body and mind and just makes the day seem a lot better!"  She is registered at the 200 hour level with Yoga Alliance.
