Heather "I have one of those yoga success stories you hear about. I used to suffer from TMJ--a debilitating act of clenching one's jaw at night caused by too much stress. My physical therapist recommended yoga. I tried a class at a local gym and loved it! I no longer needed the P.T. and also found that the normal aches, pain and fatigue I had from chasing after two kids had faded! I became more serious about my practice when I joined a studio and had more attention in a smaller setting. A friend of mine (Pilates Instructor), knew my new passion for yoga and asked if I would be interested in teaching at a small gym in Clovis. I completed a correspondence yoga certification program with NESTA called, Sport Yoga. For experience I started teaching to a group of high school and college kids at my church, (Called it "Yo-God"). In teaching, I found that I loved it so much! There is excitement and joy in watching people come alive when they experience the benefits of yoga. My children, Grace and Ryan began practicing yoga with me in our living room. It became a great bonding time with my kids and they too have benefited from yoga. Grace is a competitive rock climber and has greatly improved her climbing skills and reduced her risk of injury. Ryan has Sensory Processing Disorder and has become much stronger and focused when we spend time practicing fun poses!
Then I met Chaz; I had never experienced a style of yoga like the kind that Chaz taught. I never realized that yoga didn't have to be so serious. Chaz has shown me that yoga can be practiced with laughter, fun music and spirit! I joined the studio and became a great fan of Chaz's and the other instructors and Sisters! Chaz has become a great friend and mentor to me.
I know that yoga is a practice. I took a year off of teaching and practicing, felt terrible, gained 15 lbs., and had a horrible year with health issues (mostly hormonal/ovarian cysts). When I started back up again (when Sisters opened) the health issues were gone and I've lost the lbs. that I gained in the year off!
Grace and I love yoga. It is a special time that we can have together!"
