Sisters Yoga and The Marjaree Mason Center Domestic violence is an attack against the very thing we take for granted: safe shelter in the home. When a woman is victimized, her children are also victims. The home is supposed to be a place of nurturance and peace. Instead, when children grow up in a violent environment, they learn this violence. Domestic violence shelters offer not only refuge for the victims of abuse, but also a place to learn life skills that will help the victims once they leave the shelter. For this reason, Sisters Yoga has linked with several local Fresno charities including The Marjaree Mason Center and forwards them a portion of their class donations.
Our Yo-God! class, (a Christian yoga class that is donation based) has been an incredibly rewarding experience. Half of the proceeds each 1st Sunday of every month are donated to the Marjaree Mason Center. Together, the Marjaree Mason Center and Sisters Yoga are helping women find a sense of "self," realizing that they are worth all of the love in the world.
"The Marjaree Mason Center (MMC) is the only program of shelter and comprehensive supportive services for women and children victimized by abuse and homelessness in Fresno County. MMC addresses the serious and life-threatening issues of domestic violence and homelessness for women and their children by offering programs of multilevel intervention.
MMC's residential program consists of three individual programs, each with varying eligibility requirements and program curriculum and expectations.
The Marjaree Mason Center's residential shelters include four sites. The first, a 21,380 square feet building, consisting of 40 bedrooms (93 emergency beds and 8 transitional beds); a communal living, dining and cooking area; a pantry and washrooms; a large education/recreation room for children; staff offices and meeting rooms for the provision of counseling and education services; and 3 bathrooms. The second, a renovated 7 bedroom home (23 beds) with a communal living room, kitchen and dining room and 7 bathrooms. The third, Naomi’s house, consisting of 22 beds with a communal living room and kitchen. And our fourth, a renovated home transitional shelter (18 beds) with a communal living room, kitchen, dining room and bathrooms."--mmcenter.org
